Amanda Mankey

I am the owner, as well as one of the stylists at Amanda’s Expressions. I love working alongside my girls doing hair. When I opened the salon in October of 2000 I was only 21 years old. Now I am all grown up with a wonderful husband and a mother of two amazing little boys, ages 3 and 5. The reason I started my own business wasn’t to get rich… all I have ever wanted is a fun salon atmosphere for myself, my employees and our clients. I strive to make Amanda’s Expressions a place that my girls like to come to work and clients love to visit. I originally looked at a more upscale, fancier building to open my salon. Instead, I decided to rent this section of building off of my dad because the overhead was a lot less and I could pass those savings on to my clients by charging less for their services. Funny thing is now this old rustic building is the “IN” thing!

Although managing the salon takes up some of my time, I still truly love doing hair. My favorite services that I offer are different coloring/foiling techniques and haircuts for men, women or kids. I consider myself very lucky to have such a devoted staff and loyal clientele that have been around since day one. I cannot say enough wonderful things about my girls, they truly are my family. Sometimes its hard work to be a mom of 2 boys at home and a “mom” to my 8 girls at work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!

Being a hairstylist is my passion. Not too many people can say they love their job, but I can. I have been in the industry for 16 years now. The first 7 years of my career were spent at a corporate owned salon, then 3 years of owning my own salon and now for the past 6 years I have found myself part of a salon family here at Amanda’s Expressions. I guess you could say I am the “odd man (well woman) out” because I am left handed. Don’t let that fool you though because I have a couple of specialties up my sleeve. My first love includes creating beautiful formal hair and just the right amount of beauty enhancing makeup for any special occasion. My second love is hair coloring, finding that perfect shade or highlight technique for my client is my ultimate goal.

I have 2 amazing children that have joined me on the crazy journey we call life. My son Kaden who is 13 and my daughter Mylee who is 12. I am one very proud Mom! It is a struggle sometimes to juggle life and a career as a mom, but my children and my family have always been my biggest supports. Like my family, my clients are very important to me. I work very hard and serve from my heart to make each one of them feel beautiful every salon visit.

I have been in the industry now for 23 years. I have been at Amanda’s Expressions for 10 of those years. I’m kind-of the old fashion type of hair stylist. I do like to do some of the new techniques, however, doing perms, roller sets and men’s cuts are what I enjoy most. In the past five years, I have found that I truly enjoy doing men’s/women’s pedicures and manicures which give me a nice break from being behind the stylist chair. My only child, Cheyenne, is my world. She is 17 so yes, I am trying to enjoy these teenage years, but it’s not always easy!

I guess I am like the middle child. I am not the oldest or youngest. Just the favorite haha! I have been doing hair for almost 30 years. I’ve been with Amanda’s Expressions for 12 years come this October. I mainly enjoy doing perms, pedicures, and haircuts but I am always up for doing facials with microdermabrasion. I love to meet new people and can pick up a conversation with just about anyone. I live in Amity. I have 3 children and 8 grandchildren ages 4 to 11. That there makes me pretty lucky.

I have been behind the chair for 15 years. The best part about it is seeing customers feel good about themselves when their service is complete. I also enjoy doing manicures and pedicures. It is a bit of a change in routine from being behind the chair and makes the client feel good about their hands and toes. I have been at Amanda’s Expressions now for 3 years. We are like a little mom & pop shop family. My husband and I have been married for 10 years. We love traveling and riding four-wheelers. My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love decorating. I put a Christmas tree in every room!

I was 17 years old when I started doing hair… that was back in 1971. You would think I would be tired of it after all these years, but I love the craft. I started as a salon owner for 20 years in McKees Port. I also have had experience being a cosmetology instructor. I have spent 14 years at a local company salon, but when they closed I settled myself here at Amanda’s Expressions. Not only do I enjoy my work, but I truly enjoy my life. I am a mother of 3 adult children that make me proud every day. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Marty. He is my baby and I appreciate that I have time in my life to be with him outside of work. I continue to practice all phases of hair at Amanda’s Expressions. The years of experience I have on my shoulders only makes me want to stay young and up-to-date on new hairstyles.

I love my work and I love my girls I work with. I have been here at Amanda’s Expressions for the past 3 years, but I have been doing hair for over 50 years before that. My Saturday mornings consist of my loyal clients that over the years have truly become my best friends. If you visit me at the salon, you will see my sweet, silly side. My goal at Amanda’s Expressions is “to make the beautiful more beautiful”. Some fun facts about me are that I was the first woman head of trustees at my church. My favorite color is green and I love to read, sing and dance!

I am the newest member of Amanda’s Expressions. This is the first time that I work in the salon industry. And so far I love it! I love being a part of this amazing business in a part of this atmosphere. I have two young daughters. They keep me on my toes! I enjoy spending my free time with them because I know they are growing up way too fast.
